ANCILLARY - Digipak Theme Colours

For the whole theme for my digipak, i decided to use mainly white, black, grey and navy because these colours are mainly used throughout my music video, so as a group we decided to use these 4 colours as our main colours. I have taken my picture of my model in a plain white background so I could adjust any colour for the background. Also these colours were mainly taken by the outfit that Leon Cross was wearing when he was in the music video "Hey You Beautiful". I wanted a dark colour as my background image so that it would not really look too girly and most of the digipaks that I have seen such as Justin Beiber has really dark colours. As our artist is wearing a navy shirt, i thought that it was not a really good idea to have a really dark background as it will blend it, so i thought of using either grey or a white colour which I found really similar to olly mur's Album.

ANCILLARY - Digipak Layout

As I havent been buying albums for a long time and havent laid eyes on one for so long, i decided to visit HMV to look at the layout of different types of Digipaks and spotted well known artists such as Justin Bieber and One Direction. I realised that these are the artists that I will like to follow through their digipaks so I wanted to take their layout to help with my digipak. As soon as I saw both their albums, it seems like it drawn my attention by looking at the album cover which wanted me to see the inside of the album but cannot as I has to purchase the item.

The idea that I have is to have the name of the album ate the top of the artist as i really liked the one direction's album which seemed to attract many people. Both of the artist have a medium shot which I thought was really attractive so that the audience's could look at their full body gesture and the clothes that they are wearing which is what teenagers look at towards a artist. Also I really like how they put the album name on top of the artist, I realised that they do this to never to cover the artist's face as it is the most important in a album to promote the artist. So as a result to my research, i decided to have a similar layout the the One Direction's album.

ANCILLARY - Planning Digipak/ Teachers Feedback

How many Digipak Panels will I have?

I will have 4 panels in total. 2 out panels and 2 interior panels.

Where did I get my Digipak layout ideas from?
I decided to go to HMV to look at other digipaks which i thought that will be the one place with many digipaks so I could carefully look at different digipaks that they sell. The ones that caught my attention as a customer was mainly Justin Beiber and One direction's Album as it is targeted into my age group which I then analysed all the features and layout of the album which found out that they mainly have a medium shot and a title at the top to not cover their faces and show their body language and clothing.

Teacher Feedback

I decided to show my teachers a sample of my digipak and was told that the front panel was a little plain and could have added something into the front panel. She told me that my back panel was really good as I have added a cross for my synergy which I also found really cool as I saw something similar in another Digipak I have saw in HMV.

ANCILLARY - Designing Digipak

Decided to use Photoshop in the media room and was trying out different fonts and images to improve my digipak. In college, I was able to use a program called Photoshop elements which was really similar to Adobe Photoshop Cs6 which I was not really too known to the program yet. So before I started, I messed around with the program a little and realised it was really similar so I decided to create a model digipak which so I know what to kinda do to my digipak and have a rough idea of what digipak I want to do in front of me instead of drawing one out.

I decided to take a picture with my model in a plain white background so I will be able to have any background I want and edit the background anyhow I want. The colour theme that I wanted was mainly dark blue, grey and black as it was the colour theme he was using throughout the video. I also believe that dark colours look much cooler on female artists as I have researched many digipaks and mostly male digipaks are dark coloured.

ANCILLARY - Production Pitch

Describe the theme/style of your ancillary products in 5 words:

Modern
Simple
Attractive
Sleek
Clean

Outline how many panels your digipak will have:

I will have a total of 4 panels, 2 outer and 2 interior

State where your magazine advertisements will be placed:

Newspapers (Metro,Guardian,Independent)
Magazine( Glamour, Cosmo)

Where did you get your ideas from :

I mainly got my ideas by going into HMV and looking at other digipaks such as Justin Beiber, One direction and Union J as they have the same target audience's as us. Their digipaks also caught my attention as a customer which I really liked. I also really liked the layout that they used by having the text at the top of the digipak to not cover their face and to promote the artist. I also liked the contrast of dark and light colours that they used.

Screen on Green

As we came out of the green on screen, we asked people about our music videos which all was excellent comments and feedback about our music video. We did not have any negative feedback about our video which was really good. While we was in the cinemas, we analysed our video once more and thought that our music video was really well made as well. We also looked at other students music videos to try to compare to our own and noticed that most of the other music videos were also really good and try to get some tips from other videos. We asked someone who watched our video in the cinemas if they really liked our video and he gave us a 2 thumbs up and a huge smile! "Wicked video".

ANCILLARY- Digipak research (OOH)

While shopping at HMV, me and Doan came across many Digipaks that inspired us on our Digipak we are about to create. There were many Digipaks but we chose the ones that targeted our audiences more and artists that inspired us to make Leon cross. We saw many different types of Digipaks such has ones that didn't have the artist on the front page and one that had artist on the front page. As customers the Digipaks that had the artist on the front page caught our attention first as we knew who the artist was whereas the ones with no artist did not catch out attention. So as a result to this we decided to make our Digipaks with our artist on the front as it will attract more teenagers and more people.
