PLANNING - Similar Music Video's

PLANNING - Looking at other Music Videos

From the three music vids below, I had been able to formulate a plan for the music video and certain aspects we can use when deciding how to film our remake.

One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful

- Link back to girl
- Dancing
- Shot types
- Clothing
- Audience
- Mise en Scene

This music video is somewhat similar to what we intend to do on our final music video. One Direction have a similar audience to us and are in the same genre, so it would make sense to watch some of their music videos for inspiration. From 'What Makes You Beautiful' I especially noted some shot types such as of scenery and the artist in a wide landscape view. It looks very attractive and we hope to use it in our final remake. Their clothing is also very similar to what we expect our audience to relate to. We have noted some of their costumes and will look for similar clothing styles. There is also focus on the girl at points of the video which we will use, especially with the girl appearing when they sing certain bits about her, with Harry paying great attention to her during the end. The location is also very well lit and works well with the music. Although it may not seem like a huge thing to think of, I think Location is probably the most important aspect of music videos so watching other similar videos will be very useful

Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are

- Camera shots

I picked this for its camera shot types. The close ups of Bruno Mars and the shot of the two together are very effective in creating a relationship link. It shows both their emotions throughout their songs and makes us focus on the mood much better.

Olly Murs - Dance With Me

- Mise en Scene
- Costume
- Editing

Although we are creating our own music artist and brand, I really liked this Olly Murs video for the three reasons above. The Mise En Scene is particularly important as it is a song of similar mood, so we should pay attention to settings. Olly's costume also is one which is popular among Pop songs for male artists. I noted down all costumes Olly had worn throughout the music video and looked at which we could possibly see fitting into our ideas. The fast cuts were also very good, and worked well with the beat, which is something we would wish to replicate in order to create a successful music video.
